"After having done several art shows and different wildlife shows around the country I have had the opportunity to talk with people about all breeds of dogs.
I can honestly say that no other breed of dog has won the hearts of the American people like the Lab.
In most cases the family doesn't just get a dog, they add a family member.
It is always interesting to me to listen to all the tales that folks have about their Labs and what has been chewed up, dug up, or imported from neighboring yards.
I usually keep three Labs, one of each color.
I once had a chocolate that had a habit of going up to a cemetery near my home and retrieving all the plastic flowers he could bring home to me.
In the mornings, I was always surprised or shocked by what he had so proudly brought to my front porch.
I was beginning to worry what might be next.
I titled this piece 'When Rascals Become Legends'.
It seemed so appropriate. What other name could you hang on Lab puppies but Rascals?
But you never know which one will grow to be your best hunting dog, fishing buddy, or just plain best friend.
I enjoy coming up with the title sometimes more than doing the paintings!
This piece depicts all three of the colors of the breed.
The black monster in the middle was mine; he was a beautiful and enormous Lab I owned named 'Gismo'.
The chocolate belonged to a neighbor, and the yellow was a handsome Lab I photographed to paint at a field trial in North Carolina."
