How did the First Labrador get named "Buddy"?
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - It's official -- President Clinton has named his new pet puppy "Buddy" after an uncle from his home state of Arkansas.
Clinton made the decision with his wife Hillary and daughter Chelsea after reviewing literally thousands of suggestions sent in by Americans on what he should name the three-month-old chocolate Labrador retriever that moved into the White House on Sunday.
"I finally decided to name the dog after my beloved uncle...," Clinton told a news conference. "I'm going to call the dog 'Buddy."'
Henry Oren Grisham, called "Uncle Buddy" by Clinton, died last June in Hope, Ark. He raised and trained dogs for more than 50 years.
